Fallout 3 & Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasters Leaked By Microsoft Files

Two Bethesda Remasters Before Elder Scrolls 6!

Bethesda has an iconic lineup of RPGs to its name. Among its history, few can match up to Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The former sold over 12 million copies, while the latter sold around 10 million units.

Both games have gathered a dedicated fanbase over the years who have come to appreciate the revolutionary introduction to the RPG genre over a decade ago. Currently, Bethesda is working on The Elder Scrolls 6, which is expected to arrive in 2026.

However, Microsoft’s recent court case has leaked two more Bethesda games. The remasters of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion have been leaked, and they are scheduled for an FY24E release window.

Why it matters: Remasters for these games would introduce some much-needed changes as they can feel dated by today’s standards. This would also allow Bethesda to introduce The Elder Scrolls to new players before the inevitable release of The Elder Scrolls 6.

The latest mainline title in the Fallout series is Fallout 4, which sold over 20 million copies. It has almost been a decade since fans were treated to a new Fallout RPG, but it appears Bethesda had a big surprise in store.

Fallout 3, in particular, is considered among the best Fallout games, as it helped shape the entire franchise. Alongside Skyrim, it stands as Bethesda’s best-rated title to date, nearly 15 years later.

Following the trend of remasters, a similar treatment for Fallout 3 has been demanded by millions of fans of the IP. However, it remains to be seen if this remaster is being handled by Bethesda or outsourced to a different developer.

While the document points to a release before March 2024, this window appears unlikely, hinting that the project will be released later since games like Starfield were released much later than the FY21E window mentioned in the document.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion

As for The Elder Scrolls 4, a remaster for the game had already been leaked in July.

The game appears to have been outsourced to Virtuos Games, based on a hybrid Unreal Engine 5 and Creation Engine build. According to the leak, this remaster is scheduled to be released in early 2025 at the latest.

Nonetheless, the document has pointed to nearly every major Bethesda Softworks game scheduled for the current generation of Xbox consoles.

Apart from the remasters, the publisher has new iterations of Doom, Dishonored, and Ghostwire: Tokyo in the works. However, fans of Bethesda Game Studios will find the remasters most interesting.

Since Microsoft has hinted at exclusivity for the publisher’s entire catalog moving forward, Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls 4 may not be available for PlayStation consoles, but nothing has been officially announced.
