Xbox Series X 2TB All-Digital Console To Be Released In Late 2024

Redesigned Console Expected To Cost $500!

The Xbox Series X currently holds the crown as the gaming industry’s most powerful console. This is why Microsoft believes that a need for a console refresh does not exist.

However, following recent leaks, the threat of a PS5 Pro looms over the Xbox Series X, with PlayStation potentially looking to reclaim the title of the most powerful console in the world.

While Microsoft does not appear to be planning a similar model with upgraded specifications, documents from its court case against the FTC reveal that a refresh of the Xbox Series X with 2TB of storage is coming in 2024.

Why it matters: Traditionally, console manufacturers like PlayStation and Xbox have released new slim revisions of their consoles, offering perks like more storage, more efficient consoles, and cheaper models as the years go by.

These images reveal one part of Microsoft’s overall plans for its future in the gaming industry.

As for the new Xbox console, much like the Xbox Series S, the gaming giant plans to go all-digital with its most expensive hardware, including a massive 2TB SSD, without any uplift to the price.

The Xbox Series X design has been completely reworded, showing a cylindrical console compared to the more PC-like design of the original. Additional features include a USB-C front port with power delivery and WiFi 6E.

In terms of specifications, the Xbox Series X appears to retain its predecessor’s hardware. This should lead to identical performance, but the new model will be more efficient, as Xbox boasts reduced power consumption by 15%.

Xbox SebileThe new console is expected to be complemented by Sebile, a new controller including features like haptic feedback and an accelerometer for gyro support.

This would allow Xbox to compete with PlayStation’s DualSense controller, which has been praised for such functionalities since the beginning of the latest console generation.

Xbox 2024 Roadmap

According to Microsoft’s roadmap from the court documents, the Xbox Series S 1TB refresh is expected to be released around September 2024, while the Xbox Series X will be available on the market by November 2024.

It should be noted Microsoft has already released a 1TB variant of the Xbox Series S recently. However, like the Xbox Series X revision, Microsoft’s budget console may receive additions, like support for new WiFi and Bluetooth standards.

In addition to the new Xbox Series S|X models, the court documents have provided insight into Microsoft’s plans for the next generation of console gaming.

The gaming giant expects new models to be released by 2028 and hopes to be more flexible than ever for creators and consumers.
