FromSoftware first announced Shadow of the Erdtree for Elden Ring in early 2023. Nearly one year later, the long wait for more information has finally come to an end, with the developer sharing an extended gameplay trailer.

This expansion reportedly combines two DLCs into one, justifying the long development time. From the first impressions, Shadow of the Erdtree has the potential to be FromSoftware’s best DLC to date.

Why it matters: Elden Ring was the 2022 Game of the Year, becoming the studio’s biggest title to date.

The first look has left fans stunned despite the sky-high expectations. Considered one of the industry’s finest developers today, this team has led to another burst of excitement among the Elden Ring fandom after this footage.

Following over two years of development, Shadow of the Erdtree will finally arrive on 21 June. The game is also receiving a new physical edition to bundle the content with the base game.

Furthermore, a new collector’s edition is part of this physical release. As for the trailer itself, Shadow of the Erdtree has various new foes, weapons, locations, and bosses to discover.

The plot appears to revolve around Miquella of the Haligtree. Many fans wanted to learn more about Miquella since Malenia had high praise for him, claiming that Miquella was the most fearsome of all Empyreans.

This set the tone for his appearance in the DLC, and FromSoftware’s portrayal shows an exciting adventure involving Miquella. As expected, there is still a lot we don’t know about the expansion.

According to reports, it will end up around 25 hours long. Additionally, a financial report has hinted that another expansion could be planned for the game in 2025.

Shadow of the Erdtree is expected to bring new life to Elden Ring. The game launched as one of Steam’s biggest releases in 2022, and this DLC is poised to return this mesmerizing open-world adventure to its former glory.
