While the franchise’s success led to a standalone co-op multiplayer game, the IP is set to expand even further from here. A new report suggests that a new Elden Ring film may be on the horizon.

Why it matters: For Elden Ring, a souls-like game translated into a live-action film would be exciting.

In an interview with IGN, George R.R. Martin was asked if he would return for an Elden Ring sequel, but he responded that they’re currently in talks for a movie.

Well, I can’t say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring

For those unfamiliar, George R.R. Martin is best known for writing Game of Thrones novels and for his work on a few TV shows. Surprisingly, the writer also played a role in Elden Ring’s development, working alongside Miyazaki to shape the game’s worldbuilding.

As such, Martin was featured heavily in the game’s promotional material. Moreover, this isn’t the first time talk of a possible Elden Ring film has been sparked. The same writer previously hinted at an Elden Ring live-action adaptation.

Even the game’s creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has been open about a potential film adaptation but under the condition that a strong player must be involved.

The writer did say that Game of Thrones: Winds of Winter, a book he has been working on for 15 years, might play a potential hurdle in his involvement. Still, it doesn’t mean that his commitment to other projects will affect the movie in any way.
