Elden Ring Becomes Best-Selling Steam Game After Recent Sale

Game of The Year 2022 Back On Top!

FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed Elden Ring has been one of the most successful releases of this decade. The game has won several awards and even beat God of War Ragnarok to win the 2022 Game of the Year Award.

As a part of the Steam Summer Sale, Elden Ring was discounted by 30% and has now jumped 42 spots to reclaim the number-one position on the best-selling charts.

Why It Matters: While it has been around for over a year and a half, Elden Ring remains highly popular and actively played. This ongoing enthusiasm from players highlights how relevant and engaging the game continues to be long after its release.

Elden Ring has become the best-selling game on Steam on multiple occasions, most recently in December 2022, which was a year after the game’s release.

It should be noted that free-to-play games like CS:GO are not included in the list. The first spot is taken by Valve’s Steam Deck, but FromSoftware’s latest release stands at the top of the other games on the list.

Additionally, Elden Ring was the most-played game on the Steam Deck in May 2023. The game has also sold over 20 million copies as of February 2023, which is a massive achievement, especially considering Elden Ring is a new IP.

Elden Ring builds upon the success of other Souls games by FromSoftware and expands even further in terms of combat, lore, and innovative open-world gameplay. The game offers the freedom to explore and roam the detailed and rich open world.

Following the success of the base game, Fromsoftware is developing a new DLC for the game. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion reportedly combines two DLCs into one and is set to release sometime after March 2024.
