Dying Light 3 Could See Crane Face Off Against The GRE In Japan!

Story Highlight
  • New assets added in a DL2 update point towards a Japanese setting for Dying Light 3.
  • The assets resemble a modern-day Japanese street, filled with small rooftops and large skylines.
  • DL: The Beast’s ending hinted at GRE’s return as the antagonist. The old script leak said it was based somewhere in Japan.

Dying Light: The Beast was a major step-up over DL2 for many fans, as its linear story saw the franchise return to more serious undertones. The game’s ending also hinted that GRE would be the next main antagonist for the cast moving forward.

New leaks now reveal that Dying Light 3 will be set somewhere in Japan. Techland did yet another oopsie and accidentally left ‘Asian Street’ assets in a recent Dying Light 2 update, and the mesh with missing textures resembles a modern-day Japanese city block.

The leak also corroborates the infamous old story script leak back when The Beast was just supposed to be a DLC for DL2.

Why it matters: Dying Light 3 is expected to wrap up the story arcs of the current DL cast for good. Crane may reportedly take the fight to the GRE headquarters, which is located somewhere in Japan.

YouTuber Best Gamer Ali clarifies the connection between the assets and the old script leak. Techland’s leaked script mentioned Crane explaining to Aiden that the GRE headquarters were located somewhere on the coast of Japan.

Since Dying Light 3 is expected to see the protagonist face off against the organization, it’s fair to say that the entire plot location will be set somewhere in Japan.

The leaked story saw Crane preparing to tackle the GRE, while Aiden considered leaving for Villedor.

Even Aiden and other allies may join Crane to help take down GRE for good, since he will need help to tackle the shadow elites. However, this part is just speculation for now.

Regardless, the new assets feature both small Japanese-style houses and tall buildings, making for a perfect parkour playground for Crane. The map is expected to be a mix of urban and rural areas.

Past interviews have also suggested that Techland has already outlined the series’ future after the upcoming climactic ending to the GRE saga. So, we might see a new protagonist and storyline beyond Dying Light 3.
