Dragon Age Franchise Might Actually Be Dead At EA, Suggests Former Producer

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Might've Been The Final Nail in The Coffin!

Story Highlight
  • Former series producer thinks that more Dragon Age games won’t be happening.
  • He doesn’t think anyone at the studio would pitch it in the first place due to internal conflicts.
  • The IP has been made dormant, and even if we see it, it would be a long time.

EA BioWare was once considered a legendary studio delivering groundbreaking franchises like Dragon Age and Mass Effect. However, the studio has since fallen from grace, largely because of its last game, which was a huge letdown

After years of absence, BioWare returned to its fan-favorite franchise with Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Unfortunately, it had a lukewarm reception, and now a former producer suggests that the series might be dead at the studio.

Why it matters: EA expected Veilguard to do outstanding numbers based on the popularity and anticipation, and it was far from it. The reception even led to speculation that BioWare might be sold.

Dragon Age might not see the light of day for a long time, if ever

If they try to do that (pitch Dragon Age), somebody at BioWare would essentially become one of those people jumping under the vents to rip that person apart. I suspect that it wouldn’t happen for a variety of reasons

Talking to FRVR, Mike Darrah talked about the grim future of the franchise. He said he isn’t sure if anyone will pitch a Dragon Age game to EA anymore. They have so many dormant IPs, and this might also be one of them.

He talked about the internal struggle of getting a project approved at the studio. Darrah heard that if you pitch a game in the IP, some people would pop up and suddenly get your idea cancelled for no reason at all.

Based on this situation, he thinks that Dragon Age is unlikely ever to make a comeback, and even if it does, it’ll be a long time before that happens. For now, the studio is focused on making the next Mass Effect game.
