  • Death Stranding Mosquito trailer debuted at the Beyond The Strand event.
  • The anime film features a brand-new storyline with an antagonist who is also a Repatriate, like Sam Porter.
  • Aside from an anime film, a live-action Death Stranding film is also in the works at A24 Films.

Kojima Productions is dropping a multitude of projects in the next few years that won’t just be limited to video game titles. The Death Stranding games are set to become a full-fledged franchise with anime and film projects releasing soon.

For the studio’s 10th anniversary, a special showcase titled ‘Beyond The Strand’ was held today to give a glimpse of what’s to come next. Kojima Productions debuted a trailer for the Death Stranding Mosquito anime film that has stunned with its bold art style.

Why it matters: Anime and Live-action adaptations of video games are always welcomed by gamers, giving these rich IPs a chance to be explored by audiences outside of the gaming world, too.

The trailer showcases a brand-new antagonist who appears to be a Repatriate just like Sam Porters. The 2:15 footage focuses on the clash between the two Repatriates, featuring some unique-looking visuals and shades that appear relatively fresh for anime films.

Nevertheless, Death Stranding Mosquito appears to be focusing on a brand-new storyline, but it’s unknown how it’ll fit into the overarching narrative of the series. Moreover, a release date for the film hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Death Stranding Mosquito is currently the working title for the anime movie and is being written by Aaron Guzikowski, who is best known for his work on 2013’s Prisoners. ABC ANIMATION STUDIO will produce the film.

Beyond this anime film, a trailer and concept art for the Xbox-funded OD were also showcased at the event, which survived the recent Xbox purge. Kojima Productions also laid out their plans for the next 20 years, which are filled with surprises.

Currently, a live-action Death Stranding film is also in early development at A24 films, and Hideo Kojima almost directed it. Anyhow, both these projects seem to be in safe hands.
