Deadlock Hits New 262K All-Time Peak On Steam Two Years After Invite-Only Beta Began

The City Never Sleeps Update Has Been A Huge Success!

Story Highlight
  • Deadlock has hit a new all-time peak of 262k daily active players on Steam.
  • It reached this milestone thanks to the highly successful City Never Sleeps update.
  • The update introduces a map rework, major UI changes, and six new hero characters.

Valve’s Deadlock is an anomaly, to say the least, but this niche experience has somehow clicked with hundreds of thousands of players worldwide. The game has continued to grow since early 2024, when Valve secretly launched an invite-only beta on Steam.

It has now hit over 262k daily active players on the platform, surpassing Valve’s Team Fortress 2’s all-time high of 253k from over three years ago.

The MOBA meets third-person shooter saw a flood of new and returning players after The City Never Sleeps update came out on September 30th.

Why it matters: Valve’s Deadlock is enjoying success just in its invite-only beta phase that many AAA games struggle to reach after full launch. The game has resonated with a lot of players because it combines two of the most addictive genres in just the right way.

As shown on SteamDB, Deadlock saw a surge of players a few days before the City Never Sleep update came out. It has continued to rise since then, as the new update has been a staggering success for the online shooter.

For reference, Deadlock sat at a 100k all-time high peak just earlier this year. It’s also worth noting you can only obtain the game if an existing player sends an invite, so the new 262k player peak would have been much, much higher if this was a free-to-play beta.

The City Never Sleeps update introduces a fun map rework, adding steam vents that boost regeneration, provide invisibility, and come with several other perks. It also brings massive UI changes and six new fun heroes that all stand out in different ways.

Deadlock is a unique blend of MOBA and third-person shooters.

Easy access to Deadlock is sure to boost player metrics to new heights, but Valve confirmed in the past that there are no plans for an open beta yet.
