- Cyberpunk 2’s associate game director thinks the industry is imploding due to the current scale of layoffs.
- Paweł Sasko thinks projects are being killed off at a pace never seen before.
- The CD Projekt Red designer linked to job openings at the company, saying he is glad they are still hiring across multiple regions.
Layoffs are taking place across the industry nowadays. From smaller-scale studios to developers under the care of gaming giants like Xbox, no one is safe from the reckless nature of the gaming world.
Arguably, the most prominent job cuts in recent memory took place at Bungie a few days back, with the Destiny 2 studio laying off a sizeable portion of its staff after ending support for the game. The situation is apparently so bad that even CD Projekt Red is sympathising with developers who lost their jobs.
Why it matters: In an industry where profits mean everything, studios like CD Projekt Red are a blessing for talented developers who want to work in the industry with job security.

After news regarding Bungie’s layoffs broke, Cyberpunk 2 associate game director Paweł Sasko stated that it feels like the industry is imploding due to the frequency and scale of recent job cuts.
The CD Projekt Red designer expressed worry over the current state of the gaming world, mentioning that teams and projects are getting killed every other day at such a pace that it’s hard to keep up. Sasko also linked job openings across different CDPR studios for those affected by recent layoffs, saying he is glad that the Polish company is still hiring for multiple games.
The Cyberpunk 2 lead has a point when it comes to the industry’s volatile nature, as this month alone, multiple well-known studios besides Bungie have suffered job cuts or are close to shutting down. Layoffs have already started at the Xbox-owned Compulsion Games, with the gaming giant’s other developers, including Ninja Theory, also under threat of closure.

Of course, CD Projekt Red isn’t immune to downsizing, as the company fired 100 developers in 2023. However, at a time when gaming powerhouses are pursuing layoffs to reduce spending, the Cyberpunk developer is still providing jobs across the board.
