- Black Ops 6 could lead to millions of new users flocking to Game Pass.
- Multiple analysts agree that the service will grow due to this release.
- They also predict that Activision will miss out on a few million sales that can be compensated for through post-launch monetization.
The latest Call of Duty entry is ready to break records once again. Black Ops 6 marks the long-anticipated return of Treyarch and is the first Call of Duty title heading straight to Game Pass.
The game is already doing well on Steam, and an analyst predicts a similarly impressive performance on Xbox’s subscription service. In fact, the game is estimated to bring in millions of new subscribers.
Why it matters: Black Ops 6 has the ability to breathe new life into Xbox’s popular subscription service, making it a pivotal release for the gaming giant.
Speaking to Games industry, analyst Michael Pachter estimated anywhere from three to four million new subscribers for Game Pass after this release. He also predicted that this move would hurt Activision’s bottom line, leading to several million lost sales.
Piers Harding-Rolls, another analyst, believes Game Pass numbers will rise by 10% once Black Ops 6 is released. This would lead to 2.5 million new users joining the service, including those upgrading from lower tiers that no longer offer the luxury of day-one AAA titles.
He estimates that this strategy will lead to Microsoft boosting monetization efforts later in the game’s lifespan to maximize revenue from a bigger audience.
Elsewhere, Newzoo analyst Brett Hunt made similarly encouraging predictions.
This is the most Call of Duty has been reinvigorated in recent years, and the numbers will reflect this.
