Assassin’s Creed Fans Want The Series Heading To Cold War Era Next

Cold War-Era Spy Game Would Be Perfect!

Story Highlights
  • Fans want the Assassin’s Creed franchise to visit the Cold War in the future.
  • The Cold War era lasted from 1947 to 1991, so it’s a fairly recent historical event.
  • Currently, the next game will take the franchise to feudal Japan with Shadows.

Ever since the dawn of the franchise, Assassin’s Creed has had various historical settings spanning multiple eras. These include Ancient Egypt, the Third Crusade, Ancient Greece, and even the Viking era with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

However, fans want the next game in the franchise to be set in the Cold War era, as that has plenty of untapped potential.

Why it matters: Most Assassin’s Creed games have fairly historical settings dating back hundreds of years. However, a Cold War setting would take the players to recent events and could be very interesting.

Assassin's Creed
Assassin’s Creed games have visited different locations across multiple eras.

In a Reddit post, fans discussed what sort of setting most people want for Assassin’s Creed. For a long time, such posts were filled with cries for a Japanese entry Interestingly, many comments now indicate interest in an entry based on the Cold War era.

Such a game would see Ubisoft expand the franchise to the United States and the Soviet Union. The war lasted from 1947 to 1991, which presents a lot of time for multiple events to take place until the fall of the Soviet Union.

However, the Cold War may be improbable for Assassin’s Creed because it’s too close to a modern setting. The earliest setting this franchise visited with any mainline game was with Syndicate, which was set in 1868 in London at the onset of the Second Industrial Revolution.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will take the franchise to feudal Japan.

Fans also discussed other potential locations, including Poland and Lithuania vs. the Teutonic Order from the 14th to 15th century, World War 2, and others.

Nonetheless, Assassin’s Creed is going to the highly requested era of feudal Japan with Shadows. The next in line is Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which will be set in the Witch Hunt era, although the actual setting is yet unknown.
