- Asha Sharma has said that Xbox expects growth to return by this time next year.
- The comment follows an annual revenue decline and thousands of layoffs.
- Xbox’s reset has led to a return to exclusives and a new focus on console sales.
Xbox is trying to steady the message around its gaming business after another turbulent stretch for Microsoft’s first-party operation. Recently, the gaming giant saw poor performance in Fiscal Year 2026. Moreover, Xbox suffered from layoffs and studio shifts over the last few months.
Amid the chaos, CEO Asha Sharma seems quite hopeful for the future, promising growth for next year.
Why it matters: Xbox’s ongoing struggles have effectively lasted since the debut of the Xbox One, and Microsoft is still trying to regain its footing in the games industry over a decade later.

In a post on X/Twitter, Asha Sharma noted that FY2026 did not see any meaningful growth come to the Xbox brand.
However, she insisted that growth will “take time.” Previously, the CEO described Xbox’s ongoing turmoil as part of a broader reset. In her latest tweet, Asha Sharma noted that the gaming giant is attempting to invest in what players value.
She also stated that growth should return to the business by the end of Fiscal Year 2027. Of course, this means that Xbox’s troubles are yet to end and that more problems await for the next quarter or two.
That will take time, but we expect to return to growth by the end of FY27.

Under Asha Sharma’s latest changes, the brand has already seen over 3,000 layoffs. More layoffs are also expected in the coming months, so it remains to be seen just how accurate the CEO’s prediction will turn out to be.
Still, both Satya Nadella and the Xbox Head are hopeful for the gaming business’ future as part of the new direction.
