- AMD is set to introduce multi-frame generation to compete with Nvidia’s similar tech.
- The company is going further, as it will have options for 1x to 8x frame generation.
- It is reportedly still in the testing phase and could release with the next major update.
Upscaling tech has become a core feature of game optimization with all modern releases. Almost every release asks you to use an upscaler like DLSS or FSR for a better experience, combined with Frame Generation for higher frame rates.
AMD is reportedly set to introduce 8x Multi-Frame Generation as part of its next major update with the FSR suite. The company will be late to the party as Nvidia already has 6x Multi-Frame Generation, but it’s catching up.
Why it matters: Many people are skeptical about using frame generation in gaming, as it introduces a bit of latency. However, the tech has gotten a lot better over the years, and in certain scenarios, the latency is hardly noticeable.

A third-party called RadeonTuner has revealed (via TechPowerUp) that AMD is adding preliminary support for multi-frame generation with its latest build, suggesting that the company is preparing to take on Nvidia.
The tool’s developer has revealed that AMD puts these kinds of placeholders in place when it’s testing new features. The report further reveals that there will be options from 1x to 8x frame gen, compared to Nvidia’s 6x.

However, just like it is with modern software, it will likely be locked to RX 9000 and future RDNA GPUs. Nvidia does a similar thing with the latest generation of DLSS, and Multi-Frame Gen is only compatible with RTX 50 series.
AMD has been playing catch-up for quite a while now. Software support has been the biggest criticism of the company, but they are finally incorporating new features and also bringing FSR 4 upscaling to older GPUs as well.
