- Alan Wake 2 has sold over 1.3 million units, and Remedy is pleased with the results.
- The studio confirms it sold 1 million copies of the horror game in 2023 alone.
- These figures make it the team’s fastest-selling game.
Alan Wake 2 came out last year to incredibly positive reactions, quickly becoming one of the year’s best-rated games. It was also a digital-only release exclusive to Epic Games on the PC platform.
Several months after its release, Remedy did not provide a sales update in 2023, leading to doubts about the game’s commercial success. However, two months into 2024, the developer confirms it has already sold 1.3 million units.
Why it matters: Remedy’s decision to create a sequel to a decade-old franchise was seen as a risky endeavor in the highly competitive gaming market of 2023.

Despite the obvious limitations of Epic Games’ exclusivity on PC and a digital-only release on consoles, Remedy has confidently confirmed this release to be its fastest-selling game.
The studio confirmed that 1 million sales were achieved by the end of 2023, and an additional 300K copies were sold by February. Compared to Control, Alan Wake 2 has sold much faster on the market.
Remedy states that Alan Wake 2 outdid Control’s first four-month performance by 50% in the first two months alone. The former also sold over three times more digital copies.
We are happy with the start of Alan Wake 2’s sales
-Remedy CEO
The Remedy CEO notes this success will help speed up the developer’s future projects. He now expects the likes of Max Payne remakes to enter new stages of development before June.
For reference, these remakes were ready to enter production last year.
Alan Wake 2 did many things right last year. It was a breath of fresh air for horror games that came with awe-inspiring visuals and a narrative that elevated the whole experience. Therefore, this success was well-deserved for Remedy and its team.
