- Fans have vandalised the EA office in Madrid with graffiti that spells out Save Mass Effect.
- Multiple places outside the building were spray-painted to send the gaming giant a message.
- The petition to save the IP has also surpassed more than 300k signatures.
After EA officially announced the closure of BioWare last month, it’s safe to say the company did not expect the reaction from gamers to be this severe. From industry leaders to fans, every figure in the gaming industry has expressed sorrow at the studio’s demise, with Canadian politicians even asking the Government to save the developer.
Petitions have already started to preserve legendary franchises like Mass Effect, with over 300k people supporting the initiative to continue the gaming franchise in one form or another. Now, fans have taken it one step further, vandalising EA’s offices to send a message.
Why it matters: Fans resorting to vandalism for a gaming IP showcases the respect players have for Mass Effect and why it should get another shot.

According to a post on the Mass Effect subreddit, someone vandalised the EA offices in Madrid with #SaveMassEffect graffiti to express discontent at Mass Effect 5’s cancellation. The hashtag was spray-painted on the floor right in front of the gate and on a wall facing the office.
The original poster on Reddit was just a passerby and didn’t specify whether the vandal was just a resentful fan or a group trying to convince EA how much fans love Mass Effect.
Regardless, the #SaveMassEffect petition and the amount of attention it has generated have certainly caught the attention of the gaming world, and this graffiti is just another way players are trying to keep the IP alive.

Considering how EA only cancelled the game to fund Star Wars Battlefront 3, which it thinks is a much safer commercial bet, fans are rightfully showcasing that the demand for a new Mass Effect is there. The leaked trailer for the fifth game was received well, and it seems like the fanbase will go to great lengths to see the project come to fruition.
Do you think Mass Effect 5 would have been a sales success? Should EA sell the rights to the IP to another developer? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
