- Modern Warfare 4 has hit a peak player count of over 108,000 on Steam.
- This makes the game’s performance better than Black Ops 7’s debut on Steam last year.
- Modern Warfare 4’s campaign is receiving a lot of praise so far compared to Black Ops 7’s criticism-filled reception.
Following the early access period for Modern Warfare 4, the series’ latest campaign has been receiving a lot of praise. In fact, the title has even beaten out previous Call of Duty titles in terms of Steam ratings due to how much the campaign is resonating with fans.
Interestingly, Modern Warfare 4 has also seen quite the Steam concurrent player count peak already, beating out Black Ops 7’s lifetime peak.
Why it matters: Black Ops 7 was a softer-than-traditional year for Call of Duty in terms of commercial performance, but it appears Modern Warfare 4 will bring the series back on track.

Following the arrival of Modern Warfare 4’s early access period, Call of Duty has seen a major surge in player interest to 108,000 concurrent players.
This surge directly coincides with the game’s early access campaign release. In fact, the first-person shooter has also become Steam’s best-selling title at the time of writing, as a result of the ongoing positivity.
On the other hand, Call of Duty surged to a maximum of around 100,000 players during Black Ops 7 launch period. Therefore, Modern Warfare 4 is already doing a lot better than Call of Duty’s last release.
One major distinction between the two games comes from the campaign itself, with Black Ops 7’s campaign receiving a lot of criticism immediately after its release. On the other hand, Modern Warfare 4 has been praised for its depiction of the characters and story in the Modern Warfare series so far.
Of course, the latest Modern Warfare entry could still see a higher peak player count on Steam by the time its full release rolls out. The game was always expected to outperform its predecessor, so this trend isn’t all that surprising.
