Physical Discs Will Soon Be A Thing of The Past

Ken Kutaragi, widely known as the Father of PlayStation, has weighed in on the debate around physical games, saying that supporting discs indefinitely does not make economic sense for the industry.

Speaking to VGC, Kutaragi described some of the backlash to removing discs as a “mentality issue.” He argued that people don’t mind digital content for a device like a smartphone, so the same not being a case with games may be a mentality issue.

The PlayStation creator also admitted that player backlash isn’t unwarranted. However, he believes Sony has wider all-digital goals. Ken Kutaragi even suggested that consoles may eventually be phased out altogether.

I understand (why some people are upset), but I don’t think its economically reasonable.
