GTA 6 Marketing Budget Nearly Matches Huge Chunk of Production Cost of Many AAA Titles!

Story Highlight
  • A Miami-Dade County commissioner says that GTA 6 has a marketing budget of at least $150 million.
  • Rockstar Games has collaborated with Netflix and Miami using this budget so far.
  • The gaming giant is expected to kick things into top gear next month once again to advertise the game before launch.

GTA 6 is said to be the most expensive game the AAA industry has produced to date. The game will also most certainly be the most successful title ever produced, generating billions of dollars shortly after its launch.

As for the game’s budget, a new report suggests the title’s marketing alone cost upwards of $150 million.

Why it matters: GTA 6 marketing will ramp up next month, with Rockstar Games making sure to advertise its upcoming game to as many people as possible.

GTA 6 Has A Massive Marketing Budget

As part of GTA 6’s marketing efforts, Rockstar Games and Take-Two have collaborated with the likes of Netflix already. Rockstar Games also worked with Miami to advertise GTA 6 throughout Downtown Miami, but these plans could be in jeopardy.

The Miamian reports that various Miami-Dade County commissioners have spoken out against GTA 6 advertisements. In particular, Commissioner Rene Garcia stated that GTA 6 has a marketing budget of at least $150 million when speaking out against the negotiated amount of $975,000 for a “Welcome to Vice City” sign on the Kayesa Center’s roof.

In other parts of Miami, Rockstar Games agreed to pay up to $1.2 million for six signs. Similarly, GTA 6 marketing at Miami Beach was agreed upon in exchange for a payment of $4 million to the city.

Where commissioner Rene Garcia got his $150 million estimate from remains unknown for now, but the figure itself is hardly surprising, especially for a game that may have cost $1 billion or more in total.

The most interesting part about this budget is that it reflects a large percentage of the average AAA production today. This just goes to show just how big of a deal GTA 6 will ultimately end up being.
