GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, and if recent discussions are anything to go by, it will change the industry for good.

The game will mark a huge opportunity for all players in the industry, including Xbox and PlayStation, the two launch platforms for the game. However, reports suggest that PlayStation is leading the GTA 6 pre-order race so far by a huge margin.

Why it matters: GTA 6 could have given the struggling Xbox Series S|X consoles a fighting chance, especially due to the budget-friendliness of the Xbox Series S. 

As reported by The Verge’s Tom Warren, GTA 6 pre-orders are skewed heavily in the PS5’s favor for the time being.

Although the insider did not reveal any specifics, he pointed out that sources suggest Xbox has identified the PS5’s lead in this instance as a huge threat. In fact, it is said that many within Xbox are questing the platform’s viability as a result of this outcome.

Of course, Xbox has been going through a number of changes lately, and it’s no secret that the Series S|X consoles aren’t the most popular. It doesn’t help that the Xbox consoles aren’t priced the best either, especially for a platform that isn’t in the lead currently.

With just two months left before GTA 6’s release, things are unlikely to improve much for Xbox.

The gaming giant could, however, offer discounts on its hardware to push more people toward Xbox consoles as an option for GTA 6. Given the lack of PS5 stock lately, this could work in Microsoft’s favor, but Xbox’s tight financials put it in a tough situation as far as discounts are concerned.
