PS5 emulation has seen massive progress in the last few months, with emulators like SharpEmu and KyTy showing incredible results. The latter was able to boot up the Demon’s Soul remake on PC and got it running at 30 FPS just a week after launching the game at 1 FPS.
The KyTy emulator was also able to boot GTA 5, with the open-world title running at a stupendous 40 FPS. The race for PS5 emulation on PC is certainly hot, and now, another creator has surprised everyone by getting the KyTy emulator to run on an Xbox Series X.
Why it matters: Using Xbox hardware to advance PS5 emulation on other platforms is not only ironic, but also incredible to see.
YouTuber Devran Cosmo Uenal was able to get PS5 titles running on an Xbox Series X through his experimental PS5X emulator. The creator achieved this by porting the KyTyPS5 emulator to the Microsoft console in developer mode, which allowed him to run PS5 homebrew and game backups in the early iteration of this emulator.
The library of PS5 games on Xbox Series X included the GEX Trilogy, Hellboy Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Quake 2, with the YouTuber even playing the latter title to showcase the emulator’s validity.
As the PS5X emulator is in its very early stages, compatibility is limited, and according to the video’s description, a lot of work needs to be done. However, some of the PS5 titles are fully playable on the Xbox Series X with sound and controller support through the emulator.
Considering the pace at which PS5 emulation is progressing, with SharpEmu even booting up Ghost of Yotei on a PC, it might not take too long before the PS5X is able to run some exclusive Sony games on the Xbox Series X.
