Xbox Game Pass Won’t Have Day One First Party Titles From 2027, Claims Insider

Expert Verified By

The Platform Will Look Very Different In 2027.

Story Highlight
  • The Xbox Game Pass might look very different next year, with an insider suggesting a $3 reduction is coming.
  • Cloud Streaming and day-one titles will be removed from the service, with the former becoming a $6 add-on.
  • Multiple new tiers, including an ad-tier, will be added to Game Pass as part of the changes.

Xbox has been on an upward trajectory lately, capitalising on many mistakes Sony has made in the gaming industry. The company recently announced the disc-to-digital initiative, countering Sony’s decision to end disc production completely.

The gaming giant also picked up Hideo Kojima’s Physint after the Japanese company decided to cancel the project because of issues with overbudgeting. Now, Xbox is taking another step toward closing the gap with Sony with new changes to Game Pass, including a price reduction.

Why it matters: After its initial resurgence, Game Pass has become stagnant in the last few years. Hence, some changes might be good for the service.

According to insider Slayven on ResetEra, Xbox Game Pass will undergo a massive restructuring next year, which will include a $3 price decrease and day-one titles going away. The service will now cost $19.99 or $239.99 per annum, and new games will no longer launch day-one from February 2027.

Moreover, the insider also stated that a new tier with ads will be introduced to Game Pass, starting at $12.99 per month. Xbox is also planning to remove Cloud Streaming from the subscription, with 25 hours of the service costing $5.99 as an add-on.

Another new tier is also going to be created and will only cost $14.99 per month while giving players access to the entire Game Pass library in addition to multiplayer. Slayven previously leaked the introduction of Core and Standard tiers to Game Pass in late 2025; hence the leaker has some credibility.

Fable Game Pass
Fable could be the last Day-one exclusive to launch on Game Pass.

Considering how recent data revealed that 40% of consumers are cancelling their gaming subscriptions because of high prices, these changes might be a good thing for Xbox Game Pass. With Team Green investing a whopping $80 billion into the service and still losing subscribers, it’s high time for a different strategy.

Do you think Xbox Game Pass will benefit from these changes? Does removing day-one first-party titles from the service make it lose its main appeal? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
