- GTA 6’s head of development recently talked about the humongous scope of the game.
- He said the world is so huge that none of the devs on the team know all of it.
- It has been in development for 13 years and has gradually been evolving in size.
Rockstar revealed that GTA 6 is their largest story and world yet. The map spans twice and thrice the size of GTA 5 and RDR 2, respectively. Plus, it also offers an enormous over 80 hours of just the story alone, showcasing the massive scope.
In fact, GTA 6 is so big that Rockstar says that it doesn’t think even a single developer who worked on the title knows all of it. We don’t know the exact dimensions, but RDR 2 was already massive, and tripling that is insane.
Why it matters: Massive open worlds are usually a recipe for disaster, as they can feel bloated and empty. However, the studio has seemingly fixed the issue by introducing hundreds, if not thousands, of activities.

Speaking to IGN, Rob Nelson spoke about the scope of GTA 6. He said it was challenging for them, as they essentially treated it like a whole new title. It has been in development since GTA 5’s release, so it’s been 13 years.
He continued that over the years they’ve developed the game to be so huge that he doesn’t think even a single on-board developer knows the entirety of Leonida. The title has been developed by thousands, so this is a big statement.

However, based on what we’ve seen and heard, Nelson’s statement makes sense. Years later, people are still finding new stuff in GTA 5 and RDR 2, and with GTA 6’s size, it will take years and years to discover all of it.
