Witcher 4 Is Launching Later Than Many Gamers And Investors Expected!

Story Highlight
  • CD Projekt Red’s market value has dropped by nearly half a billion USD after The Witcher 4 launch timeline reveal.
  • It is confirmed to be aiming for a 2028 release window, but investors and gamers expected it to come out earlier.
  • CDPR suffered an ~8% decline in share price, with each share now going for ~$64 instead of ~$70.

CD Projekt Red is working on multiple games at the same time, alongside the highly anticipated Witcher 3 DLC. The company recently confirmed that The Witcher 4 is aiming for a 2028 launch window, which caused a surge of anticipation in the community.

However, the delayed launch timeline has also brought a negative market reaction from investors.

The studio suffered a drastic hit to its market value, with its stock value roughly dropping by ~1.48 billion Polish zloty (~$400 million USD). It is about an 8% decline in share price.

Why it matters: The pessimistic market reaction is immediate following The Witcher 4’s 2028 release timeline reveal. The financial risks of long development cycles caused this decline, but the studio might recover in the coming days with the planned Witcher 3 DLC reveal.

As seen on Market Watch, CDPR’s market shares were originally trading for 257-259 zlotys a pop (~$69-$70). However, each share plummeted to as low as 238 zlotys (~$64) following The Witcher 4’s launch timeline announcement.

The value briefly recovered to 245 zlotys, but it quickly started declining again. Such a staggering drop suggests that investors are quite unhappy with The Witcher 4 launching sometime in 2028.

For all we know, the game might launch near the end of 2028, which is a cause for concern for the market and gamers alike. The financial risks of long development cycles and huge mounting budgets also likely drove this decline.

The Witcher 4 developers have incredibly high expectations for the project.

Regardless, we can expect CDPR’s stock to continue dropping before an anticipated update boosts its market share to pre-Witcher 4 launch reveal levels.

The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past DLC has been officially confirmed for Gamescom Opening Night Live, which will give players the first official look into the expansion. It could also help investors regain confidence in CDPR and improve the company’s stock value.

The DLC is aiming for a 2027 launch.
