PlayStation Boycott is Now Planned to Go “Till Sony Realizes Its Mistake” Instead of A Week

Do You Think The Boycott Will Matter?

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation fans planned to go on a week-long boycott against Sony ending discs.
  • Now the organizers say the boycott will go on till the company realizes its mistake.
  • However, it seems unlikely that the company will be fazed by these actions.

PlayStation shook the gaming industry last month when it announced that it’s getting rid of physical media starting in 2028. In protest, players filed a petition and planned a total blackout of the platform for a week starting today.

The boycott has finally begun, but what was initially planned for a week is now planned to go till Sony realizes its mistake and reverses its decision. This comes after others raised concerns that a week-long boycott won’t matter.

Why it matters: Ahead of the blackout, PlayStation once again sent a notice reminding people of the end of physical media and that digital games are just a revocable licence, indicating no plans to reverse its decision.

The organizers posted on X for users to switch off their PS5 consoles, marking the start of the boycott. Notably, they didn’t mention the week-long status and were questioned in the comments about when the boycott ends.

Replying to a comment that the week-long boycott won’t work, the organizers replied that it will go on until Sony realizes its mistake. They say it’s better to do something if it can make a difference than sit doing nothing.

Funny enough, some people are asking to delay the boycott, as this week they’ll be playing the Modern Warfare 4 beta. Nonetheless, it has begun, but it likely won’t make a difference based on Sony’s current tactics.
