- Rockstar recently suffered a massive data leak seeing GTA 6 footage surfacing online.
- A former employee believes that the leaks are just annoying for the studio and that’s it.
- He believes that 90% of the fans don’t have time to search for these minor leaks.
GTA 6 has been the subject of massive leaks, with multiple clips from an early build of the game having surfaced online. The leaker has even uploaded a playable build of the game, but a former Rockstar employee doesn’t think it’s a big deal.
He says that the GTA 6 leaks are probably a “no burger” for the studio. He says that the situation was a lot worse during the Hot Coffee controversy from 2005, and these leaks might be a little annoying, but that’s it.
Why it matters: Rockstar has officially revealed that they haven’t caught the leaker yet, but morale at the studio is down. This means the studio is infact been impacted, but it isn’t clear to what degree.
Calm down everybody. The leaks are a nothing burger.
As a marketing strategy R* is trying to keep the game under wraps longer than other publishers. All that has happened is that some footage has escaped. Slightly ahead of the Netflix thing next week.
90% of future players…

Obbe Vermeij, who worked on multiple games at Rockstar up to GTA 4, talked about the recent leaks. He says the studio might be a bit annoyed at this, as they were preparing for the Netflix event, but it won’t affect it too much.
He says that 90% of the players don’t waste their time searching for tiny video snippets on the internet and don’t want spoilers. He recalled the infamous Hot Coffee controversy, where explicit content was found in San Andreas’ code.

Vermeij believes that it affected the management quite a lot and, compared to that, the leaks are nothing. He then praised GTA 6, saying that it looks phenomenal and will undoubtedly sell for the next 15 years or so.
