Despite Launching Only On PS4 and PS5!

Story Highlight
  • Black Ops 2 was listed as the best-selling game in the US for July 2026.
  • The game beat out other titles like Black Flag Resynced and Halo: Campaign Evolved by a huge margin despite launching on fewer platforms.
  • This result also makes Black Ops 2 the 5th best-selling game of 2026 so far in the US.

Call of Duty’s latest release came in the form of PS4 and PS5 ports of the beloved Black Ops titles last month. Since then, both games have sold a combined total of nearly 10 million units.

Perhaps it comes as no surprise, then, that Black Ops 2 became the best-selling game of July in the US.

Why it matters: Fans have been asking for remasters of classic Call of Duty titles for the longest time, and with Activision finally delivering, millions showed up to revisit these games.

According to Circana’s July 2026 sales results, Black Ops 2 ranked at the top for the month in the US, ahead of College Football and other major releases. For a game first released in 2012, the result is a major reminder of fans’ love for this particular Call of Duty entry.

Elsewhere, Black Ops 1 followed behind in fifth place. Both games ended up outperforming Halo: Campaign Evolved, though that doesn’t come as the biggest surprise. On the other hand, Black Ops 2 even managed to beat Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced.

Because of this dominance, Xbox had a total of 3 big games in the US top 10 best-sellers list for last month. Moreover, Circana’s Mat Piscatella reports that this performance makes Black Ops 2 one of the 5 best-selling games in the US in all of 2026.

This feat becomes all the more impressive when considering the fact that the two Black Ops ports were released on the PS4 and PS5 only, compared to the other platforms the other games on the list were available on.
