- id Software is staying committed to id Tech instead of moving to Unreal Engine 5.
- The studio’s executive producer remains quite hopeful about the future and believes the team will remain a leader in the games industry.
- id Software is said to be working on a new Doom title at the moment.
Following Xbox’s latest layoffs, it’s clear that id Software has been hit quite hard. Many have said that the team might never fully recover from these job cuts, which are also expected to impact the development of id Tech.
However, id Software’s executive producer vows to move forward and continue pushing for innovation at the studio.
Why it matters: id Tech is one of the best engines in the industry currently, and it is particularly well known for how well the technology runs on PC.

As reported by Windows Central, id Software’s Marty Stratton has made it clear that it does not plan to abandon id Tech in favor of Unreal Engine 5.
The studio still views its proprietary engine as a core part of its future, pushing back against concerns that id Software could follow other major studios into Epic’s Unreal Engine ecosystem.
Marty Stratton stated that the team is quite excited for the technological side of things to come from id Software. He also proclaimed that id Software would continue to be a technological powerhouse within the games industry.
We’re all in on id Tech; we’re not moving to Unreal Engine.
Of course, not everyone at id Software is as hopeful about the studio’s future. Only time will tell how things will turn out, but Xbox’s layoffs could certainly leave a mark on the team. For now, the studio is moving forward with work on a new Doom title.
