- Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has suggested GTA 6 is unlikely to receive early discounts.
- The CEO mentions that GTA 5 also retained its full price for a long time after release.
- GTA 6 could still be discounted by retailers, but the digital copies will be sold at $80 for several months.
GTA 6 is launching at an $80 price point, and many are already paying $100 for the game so far. Of course, some people plan on buying the game at a later date, perhaps hoping to pick it up at a discounted price.
However, according to Take-Two, no discounts are planned for the game anytime soon.
Why it matters: Many people typically wait for discounts before pulling the trigger on a brand new game purchase. The waiting period might be exceptionally long, however, for Take-Two’s upcoming blockbuster.
When asked about any potential price cuts for GTA 6, especially due to the upcoming Christmas season, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick clearly responded that the game is expected to stay at its full price for a long while.
He indicated that Take-Two does not typically rush to discount its biggest frontline releases. This is true more so for a blockbuster like GTA 6, which is expected to sell incredibly well regardless of its price.
The CEO also pointed to GTA 5, noting that the series’ last major release held its launch price for a long period. Therefore, the same is expected of GTA 6.
I will tell you that we preserved our pricing on Grand Theft Auto 5 for a very long time. Much longer than a standard release.

The CEO did mention that retailers could still bring prices down, since Take-Two does not make those decisions. However, digital copies of GTA 6 are expected to stay at the $80 price point well into 2027.
