Xbox hardware being in absolute shambles is no secret. The company has been struggling with its consoles for the last couple of generations, and PlayStation has absolutely decimated the competition, becoming the default choice.
The situation for the latest generation is so bad that new data reveals that Xbox One currently holds a higher share of active players in the US compared to Series X|S. This indicates the struggles are getting worse.
Why it matters: The Xbox One generation was where the cracks started emerging, but the Series consoles are where the glass absolutely shattered. Last-gen consoles being higher than current ones signals a warning sign.
According to Statista, Xbox One consoles have a 23% active user share compared to 21% of Xbox Series. While the difference doesn’t seem too big, it’s alarming compared to the gap between PS5 and PS4.
Interestingly, the PS4 has a higher active player share than both the Xbox One and Series at 27%. The PS5 is the most used console in the region, towering even above Nintendo Switch 2’s 33%, with a whopping 46% share.
This shows how strong a grip PlayStation has in the US region. Xbox is preparing its next-gen hybrid console, but with an expected price tag over $1,000, things could get worse as sales are expected to slow due to memory prices.
