Xbox Wants Minecraft To Become A Global Creator Platform!

Story Highlight
  • Xbox leadership has said Microsoft plans to invest in Minecraft more heavily moving forward.
  • Asha Sharma described the goal as making Minecraft the world’s creator platform.
  • The move fits Xbox’s wider push for growth amid a tough period.

Following a troubling financial quarter, Xbox has confirmed that it will return to growth starting next year. Following what it describes as a reset, Xbox is planning on leveraging its biggest IPs, including Minecraft, to promote growth on a global scale.

Why it matters: Recent measures like the Minecraft live-action film helped promote the game, and further investments could lead to more surges in the game’s already-massive player base.

Asha Sharma Has Big Plans For Xbox IPs

In an internal memo via Resetera, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed plans to  invest heavily in Minecraft, saying Microsoft wants to make Mojang’s franchise “the world’s creator platform.”

This comment is interesting since Minecraft is among the world’s best-selling games to date and continues to be a highlight of Xbox’s otherwise declining business. Minecraft is also comparable to Roblox in many ways, one of the world’s most successful games to date.

As per Asha Sharma, Minecraft will be a key part of Xbox’s future growth plan. The wording suggests Microsoft is now more serious than ever about the franchise and will keep expanding it through creators and communities.

Xbox’s goal is to eventually reach a billion players, and because this is such an ambitious target, Minecraft’s popularity will be pivotal in helping Xbox get there.

Also, with Xbox now shifting back to exclusives, Minecraft remains among the few ways it can continue to benefit from rival platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo. As such, fans can expect to see the IP remain relevant for the foreseeable future.

What do you think about Xbox taking Minecraft more seriously? Let’s discuss in the comments section below.
