Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is easily Ubisoft’s most beloved AAA release in the past few years. This remake has already sold 2 million units at launch, setting a strong bar for upcoming Assassin’s Creed entries to meet.
At the time of writing, it’s become known that Ubisoft has made millions of dollars from selling microtransactions in the remake, but sources suggest the game has also outsold Assassin’s Creed Shadows by more than two times already.
Why it matters: Ubisoft’s biggest recent releases haven’t left as big an impact as the gaming giant had been hoping for. The Black Flag remake appears to be changing this disappointing trend.

According to Alinea Analytics, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag already has Assassin’s Creed Shadows beat when comparing revenue figures on Steam.
The game is said to have made $22.4 million on Steam at release compared to Shadows’ $9.5 million. This 2x difference becomes even more significant when considering the $10 price gap between the two titles.
For context, Alinea Analytics’ figure also puts the Black Flag remake numbers at nearly 20x higher than Assassin’s Creed Mirage. While the aforementioned numbers don’t take console revenue into account, this trend has likely persisted across platforms like PlayStation and Xbox as well.
All in all, Ubisoft’s first AAA remake can be considered a major success by all metrics, especially since it has outsold the series’ first Japanese entry, something fans had been demanding for many years up to that point.

The report also confirms that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sold over 700,000 units on Steam alone in its first four days on the market, further highlighting its successful run within the first few days.
