- According to Jeff Grubb, Gears of War E-Day won’t launch on PS5 anymore.
- The decision was made recently by Xbox, as the title was originally launching on the Sony console.
- From the looks of it, the company is going back to exclusivity.
Exclusivity has been under review at Xbox ever since Asha Sharma took over the gaming giant from Phil Spencer. The new boss has addressed fans multiple times, stating in a recent interview that exclusive content is necessary if Xbox wants to survive as a platform.
Reports have suggested that the company is seriously reconsidering the multi-platform strategy internally. As it turns out, the gaming giant might have listened to fans this time around, as Gears of War E-Day isn’t coming to PS5.
Why it matters: Xbox returning to exclusivity is a major shift in the gaming landscape and could help the company go toe-to-toe with Sony, just like the Xbox 360 generation.
During a Giant Bomb live stream, Jeff Grubb revealed that Gears of War E-Day is not releasing on the PS5 anymore. The insider stated that the upcoming shooting title was set to launch on the Sony console, but Xbox has decided to keep it exclusive to their ecosystem.
Gears of War: E-Day was going to be on PS5. It’s not anymore. That just happened. That was a decision that just got made.
Grubb also disclosed that this decision was made very recently, as a PS5 port of Gears of War E-Day was rumored to be in development according to credible sources.
To make matters even more interesting, Walmart listed a PS5 edition of the shooting title alongside the Xbox version on its website only a few hours ago. However, the listing has been taken down since then, adding further fuel to the fire that Gears of War E-Day will stay exclusive to Xbox.

This sudden shift in strategy does make sense, considering how the lack of exclusive titles was the most popular complaint fans had with the company, according to the new Player Voice system. However, players will have to wait until the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase to really find out if Gears of War E-Day is heading to PS5 or not.
