Ever since its announcement, hype for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been through the roof. The game has already started making moves on the commercial front, topping the PlayStation Store charts in several regions and also entering the Steam best-sellers ranking.

Fans have even started playing the 2013 original in anticipation of the remake, and all signs point to a massive opening for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. However, fans are unhappy with one aspect of the title and could boycott the game as a result.

Why it matters: Requiring an online connection for a physical disc is an inherently anti-consumer practice, and Ubisoft deserves criticism for it.

As spotted by Push Square, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will require an internet connection to launch, even if you buy the title physically. The box art for the game in both the USA and Europe states that “internet is required to install the game.

Recently, Crimson Desert shipped with a similar guideline because the RPG was too big to fit on a single disc. However, fans are not reacting kindly to this aspect of the game, and many on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit are threatening to boycott the game.

One fan stated that requiring an internet connection to play Black Flag Resynced is an anti-consumer practice. Others on the subreddit also shared this sentiment, saying that even though the original is one of the most iconic titles in the franchise, buying it doesn’t make sense if it has an online requirement.

Fans of the original don’t want to order the remake because of the online requirement.

Ubisoft has made all the right moves while marketing Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced so far, promising gore and a lack of RPG elements. However, this move may lose the publishers some important sales.
