More Devs Are Currently Working on Marathon Compared to Destiny 2 At Bungie

Bungie Is Committed To Marathon!

Story Highlight
  • Previously, Bungie had deployed most of its workforce to support Destiny 2.
  • Now, a bigger chunk of the developers are working on Marathon than on the FPS.
  • The studio recently committed to supporting the extraction shooter for a long time.

Marathon was released last month to a half-decent 85K players on Steam. While the number isn’t too high for a big-budget live service title, it isn’t as bad as many dubbed it, yet another Concord in the already saturated genre.

Bungie recently revealed that it plans to support the title for a long time. And now, a new report reveals that more developers at the studio are currently working on Marathon compared to the studio’s other long-running title, Destiny 2.

Why it matters: So, while the player base has dropped significantly, Bungie is showing commitment to the extraction shooter and not giving up on it. The base is there, but it still needs a lot of work.

Bungie has a larger team working on Marathon than on Destiny 2

According to Forbes, previously Destiny had a fairly greater chunk of team working on it; now Marathon holds the crown, as Bungie has focused a bigger team on it. Of around 800 developers, around 300 are working on the latter.

While Destiny 2 has a slightly smaller number of people associated with it. However, this means that the studio is now focusing more on Marathon than Destiny 2, especially considering the state the game has been in.

They want to support the title for a long time

Once one of the most popular live service titles, Destiny 2 has completely lost its charm. The recent reviews have been negative, and the players’ base has been consistently falling, which is quite unfortunate.

The conditions at the studio haven’t been too great either, as there were multiple layoffs, disputes of creative freedom, and more. Nonetheless, Bungie was once highly loved, and with effort, it can still win back its place.
