There was a recent sigh of relief when DDR5 prices finally dipped for the first time in a very long time. However, while that pointed towards things getting better, unfortunately, the prices could now surge further in Q2 2026.
Samsung Electronics, which is among the top 3 biggest DRAM manufacturers in the world, has once again increased DRAM prices by 30%, after initially increasing the prices by around 100% in the first quarter of the year.
Why it matters: This could pose a significant threat to the prices that have already been ridiculously high for the last few months, and could also lead other major manufacturers to sharply increase the prices as well.
According to a new report, Samsung Electronics has worked out a deal with its customers and has implemented another 30% price hike in Q2 2026, on top of the already increasing prices by 100% in the last quarter.
The 30% figure is an overall number that will affect everything from HBM to conventional DRAM for servers, general home PCs, and mobile phones. So, there is a huge possibility that memory prices could once again rise.
Sources close to the industry also informed that there are still many consumers who are looking for DRAM supply, so there are no signs of price stabilisation or decline, particularly given the AI-driven demand.
