- Sony recently raised PS5 prices, bringing the PS5 Pro’s MSRP up to $900.
- A prominent leaker recommends waiting for the PS6 instead of buying a brand-new PS5 or PS5 Pro.
- He states that Sony is making an efficient and cheap console next generation and that it will cost less than the PS5 Pro.
Sony has recently raised prices of the PS5 family, making the most expensive console of the bunch, the PS5 Pro, as expensive as $900. With exciting games like GTA 6 right around the corner, this price hike has come as a major shock to many.
Many have recently purchased the PS5 Pro to avoid the new pricing, but a prominent leaker warns against buying the PS5 Pro in its current state. He states that the console would be best avoided for newcomers due to how expensive it has become and the fact that the PS6 is not too far away.
Why it matters: Millions were likely expecting to upgrade to the PS5 and PS5 Pro on the occasion of GTA 6’s release this year. It is now being suggested that waiting further is the better option.
In his latest video, Moore’s Law is Dead reaffirmed that PS6 is right around the corner and Sony is now planning for the transition from the PS5 to the PS6.
He highlights that Sony’s main objective with the PS6 is to have both PS5 and PS4 gamers shift to the new hardware. On the subject of pricing, the leaker states that the recent Sony price revisions aren’t too surprising.
However, he firmly believes people without a PS5 should now just wait for the next generation consoles. As per Moore’s Law is Dead, the next generation will be designed to be cheap and efficient to produce.
The leaker also says that the console will be smaller in size compared to the launch PS5, noting that the die shrink with the PS6’s SoC, among other things, should lead to it costing less than the PS5 Pro.
I do believe that the PS6 base console will be cheaper than the PS5 pro.

This statement is interesting since other analysts have predicted a price as high as $1000 for the PS6.
