- Starfield’s Switch 2 version could be dead as Bethesda is having trouble porting to the console.
- According to a popular insider, the port has been “pushed out” and may not be released.
- Take-Two also recently cancelled the Borderlands 4 port for Nintendo Switch 2 due to technical difficulties.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has received tremendous third-party support so far, with titles like Cyberpunk 2077 running perfectly on the platform. Even new AAA games like Resident Evil Requiem are set to launch day-and-date on the platform alongside other consoles.
However, it’s no secret that some developers have had trouble optimising for the Switch 2, with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake director also pointing out the challenges studios face. As it turns out, Bethesda is one of the developers affected by the console issue, and Starfield may bear the brunt of it.
Why It Matters: Starfield could have used the RPG audience of the Switch 2 to get a boost in sales, but it seems like Bethesda is unable to find a way to port the title so far.

According to insider Shinobi602 on ResetEra, Starfield’s Nintendo Switch 2 version might be cancelled due to Bethesda’s difficulties porting the RPG. While replying to a post announcing Starfield for the PS5, the leaker stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 port has been “pushed out” and might not release at all.
Just yesterday, Bethesda revealed that titles like Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will launch on the Nintendo console. Hence, the developer’s struggle with Starfield could be due to the game’s massive scale.
This isn’t the first instance of a veteran studio struggling with the Switch 2 either. Borderlands 4 was also set to launch on the platform, but after a delay due to performance issues, Take-Two has halted production on the port.

Furthermore, Shinobi602 is a renowned insider, particularly regarding major AAA titles, and he successfully leaked the Norse setting for the God of War reboot and revealed the pricing issue Valve is facing with the Steam Machine. Hence, from the looks of it, Starfield’s Switch 2 version is in jeopardy.
