New Mass Effect Still In Development At BioWare, EA Committed To The IP

An Amazon TV Show Is Also In Development.

Story Highlight
  • A new Mass Effect title is continuing production from BioWare, with EA committed to telling more stories in the franchise.
  • Amazon is also making a TV show based on an original story set in the game’s universe.
  • The Dragon Age: Veilguard developer is focused on Mass Effect now.

EA has been under the magnifying glass recently thanks to its takeover by a private Saudi Arabian consortium. Developments at BioWare have been especially interesting as former developers thought that this new partnership would put an end to the studio.

However, despite rumors that EA tried to sell the company after the failure of Dragon Age: Veilguard, the developer is coming back strong with a new title already in production.

Why it matters: BioWare has produced one hit after another in the Mass Effect series, so one can only hope the studio takes this chance to bounce back after Dragon Age: Veilguard.

Mass Effect has been lying dormant for over 8 years.

In a new blog post, BioWare has reiterated that it is developing a new Mass Effect game, confirming insider info. The studio stated that it is committed to expanding the IP and telling more stories with support from EA.

Furthermore, BioWare also confirmed that a TV show based on Mass Effect is in development at Amazon currently and will be an original story set in the game’s universe. The events of the series will take place after the first trilogy and won’t follow Captain Shepard’s plotline, as it is controlled by players.

According to BioWare, the writers’ room for the TV series is up and running, with more news on the upcoming Mass Effect game being kept under wraps until the studio is ready to show fans a glimpse of something new.

BioWare was on the brink of collapse after the colossal failure of Dragon Age: Veilguard, which did not meet the expectations set by EA. Every writer on the game was fired, and the development team was reduced to under 100 people

Dragon Age: The Veilguard
After the failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare has to earn back a lot of trust.

But, the studio has seemingly learned from its mistakes and will be focusing completely on Mass Effect instead of developing several games at the same time, which led to an average product like Dragon Age: Veilguard.

Do you think BioWare will make a successful comeback with the new Mass Effect or crumble again? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
