Instead Of Competing Against Them, Xbox Is Now Embracing Them!

Story Highlight
  • Xbox boss says they’re removing barriers to play their games on PS5 and Switch 2.
  • They want to eliminate technical hurdles and make their titles better optimized for them.
  • This is the result of Xbox adopting a very strong multiplatform policy for its future.

The announcement of Halo on PlayStation all but confirmed Xbox’s recent statements that exclusives are now outdated to them. However, they’re not only porting their games to other platforms but also making it easier for gamers.

In a recent interview, the Xbox boss said that they will lower the barrier for gamers to play their titles on PS5 and Switch 2. This is part of their strategy to make their titles more accessible across all platforms.

Why it matters: Rather than competing directly with Xbox or PlayStation, Microsoft is now embracing them fully and even making it easier for players on other platforms.

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer
Xbox boss says they are removing barriers for players on PS5 and Switch 2.

In an interview with Famitsu, Phil Spencer discussed the future of Xbox and its presence in Japan. He also talked about the company’s multiplatform strategy, saying they want to make it easy for users on other platforms to play their published titles.

If we want people to play our games on PS5 and Switch 2, we will make efforts to lower the barrier to entry.

This means that in the future, we can see complete integration and optimization for current and future Microsoft ports on PS5 and Switch 2. We also know they plan to launch most of their Switch 2 slate later down the line.

This is the end of exclusives as we know it, at least from Xbox.

Before this, ecosystems have always played a massive part in console gaming. Microsoft acknowledges it’s lost out on it and now wants to make its games more accessible on other platforms.

So, instead of competing against them, they are now embracing them. Things have somehow worked for them, either since Xbox-published games like Indiana Jones and others have done well on the PlayStation 5.
