Following plenty of excitement and solid reviews, Battlefield 6 is now available to the entire world. To nobody’s surprise, the game became an immediate hit, and Dice even had trouble accommodating everyone within the first few hours.
The game has even hit 740K concurrent players on Steam, signalling a gigantic milestone for the IP.
Why it matters: Battlefield 6 follows the disappointing Battlefield 2042 release from Dice. It seems the team has completely flipped the series’ reputation with this entry.
Over on SteamDB, the game currently boasts 747,440 concurrent players.
This makes it the biggest Battlefield title on the platform by a mile, with the game boasting a 7x higher player count than Battlefield 2042’s figure, which peaked at 107,376 players. What makes this milestone all the more impressive is the fact that these numbers were recorded within the first hour of the first-person shooter’s release.
Battlefield 6 is also Steam’s 14th biggest title of all time now. Even compared to the likes of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 3, the latest release completely outshines prior entries from the IP. In fact, Battlefield 6 is the biggest release the series has had to date.
Although the franchise has always been popular and appealed to a large part of the first-person shooter fandom, this entry is now in a league of its own. Dice must now ensure it can sustain this audience through future content.
This is something the studio has done well in the past, with even Battlefield 2042 and Battlefield 5 improving quite a bit in post-launch updates. Therefore, the future appears brighter than ever for Battlefield.
Also, the team has yet to launch the already-announced battle royale mode for the game. This component is expected to arrive in 2026 at some point, potentially setting the stage for yet another influx of players within the next few weeks.
