- Uncharted School Boy Hacker is now available to wishlist on the PS5.
- The game seems to be a low-budget copy of the iconic PlayStation IP, introducing a few hacking mechanics into the mix.
- Similar copies of PlayStation IPs like The Last of Us popped up in the past.
The Uncharted franchise concluded in 2016, and Naughty Dog gave fans one more spin-off with The Lost Legacy before parting ways with the IP in 2017. Since then, fan demand for the series’ return has picked up the pace.
Many believe now is the time for the signature PlayStation IP to finally come back, and it seems things are starting to move in that direction. Unfortunately, the revival, for lack of better words, is not as grand as fans had hoped for.
Why it matters: More and more companies are beginning to produce low-budget clones of various iconic IPs, and the latest example seems to be one of the more interesting takes on an established franchise.
Uncharted School Boy Hacker can now be wishlisted on PlayStation, and it marks the not-so-expected return of the ‘Uncharted’ name.
Some may remember blatantly copied games like The Last Hope and Wukong Sun: Black Legend popping up last year, and it seems Uncharted School Boy Hacker is to the Uncharted franchise what these games were to The Last of Us and Black Myth: Wukong, respectively.
Looking at the screenshots on the PlayStation Store, it seems Uncharted School Boy Hacker has outright copied Uncharted 4’s flashback sequences from Nathan Drake’s past. The game also advertises hacking as a core part of the experience, so it seems Uncharted isn’t the only franchise it borrows heavily from.
Perhaps the most interesting part of this whole ordeal is how the game managed to show up on the PlayStation Store. The gaming giant was quick to shoot down The Last Hope last year, so it seems odd that it would allow a similar clone of Naughty Dog’s other flagship IP to be sold on PS5.
With Uncharted School Boy Hacker now gaining traction online, PlayStation may very well take action against the title. However, till then, fans will likely continue to amuse themselves with the idea of a third-party studio making a new Uncharted game before Naughty Dog.
