Microsoft Doesn’t Think PlayStation Will Release Titles Like GoW or TLOU on Xbox Anytime Soon, Reveals Insider

Simultaneous Launches of Future Games and Live-Service Titles Seem More Likely!

Story Highlight
  • Due to Helldivers 2’s success, speculation has grown that Sony might release its tentpole titles on Xbox.
  • However, according to an insider, Microsoft doubts Sony will bring games like GoW or TLOU to Xbox anytime soon.
  • Microsoft also took its time before releasing Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, showing a cautious approach to multiplatform releases.

It has been a while since Microsoft changed its policy and adopted a multiplatform strategy. The gaming giant received a lot of criticism for this shift, but aside from its hardware division, each segment of the company has been generating more profits.

This vision is now being echoed by other giants like Sony, which is also shifting its strategy. The company even released Helldivers 2 on Xbox, where it sold almost 1 million copies in just six days, outperforming its sales on the PS5 during a similar timeframe.

This has led to speculation that more PlayStation games may appear on Xbox, particularly its flagship titles. However, that may not be the case, at least for now.

According to an insider, Microsoft doesn’t believe Sony will release games like God of War or The Last of Us on Xbox anytime soon.

Why it matters: God of War and The Last of Us are two of Sony’s most iconic franchises, so it’s understandable why the company would be reluctant to bring them to a rival platform.

Xbox and PlayStation Multiplatform 2025
Xbox and PlayStation Have Both Embraced The Multiplatform Strategy.

Jez Corden of Windows Central, a reliable insider, recently revealed that sources close to him said Microsoft doubts PlayStation will make major titles like GoW or TLOU available on Xbox in the near future.

This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Team Blue has yet to fully embrace the multiplatform strategy.

Even Xbox didn’t release Forza Horizon 5, one of its flagship titles, immediately after adopting the multiplatform approach, and it still hasn’t brought some of its core franchises to the rival platform.

So, it makes sense why Sony wouldn’t be in a rush to release its tentpole titles on Xbox.

However, given how successful Helldivers 2 has been on Xbox and PC, there’s growing speculation that Sony might begin launching more games on both platforms from day one.

While that could certainly happen, it remains to be seen how the gaming giant will handle its biggest releases moving forward.
