- An industry veteran recently called GTA 6 the first-ever AAAAA game.
- He stated that no other game can match GTA 6 in terms of scope and the cultural impact it will have.
- Another industry veteran supported this, saying he has heard GTA 6 mentioned in almost every conversation about launch dates.
GTA 6 is arguably the most hyped game of all time. This game will set a standard that perhaps no game other than its sequel will be able to break. It is going to set some records that will be difficult to top, despite it not being released on PC on day one.
That said, no one ever called it an AAAA or an AAAAA game until now. An industry veteran has just referred to the game as an AAAAA title because of how massive and ambitious it is going to be.
Why it matters: Up until now, everyone assumed GTA 6 would be a AAA game, but that isn’t the case. A game of this scale shouldn’t be considered just a AAA.
In a recent interview with IGN, Devolver Digital co-founder Nigel Lowrie said that while the industry typically talks about AAA and even AAAA games, GTA 6 deserves a new label altogether: a AAAAA game.
According to Lowrie, its sheer scope and ambition place it in a category all its own, beyond anything we’ve seen before, and he is absolutely right.
GTA 6 isn’t just another big-budget release. It’s a game so massive and culturally significant that it could reshape the gaming landscape, for better or worse. That’s why it’s fitting to call it the world’s first true AAAAA game.
there are AAA games and then there’s AAAA games and I’d argue that Grand Theft Auto [6] is potentially the AAAAA game; it’s just bigger than anything else both in the scope and scale of the game and the kind of cultural impact that it has and the attention it demands.
-Nigel Lowrie
Similarly, in the same interview, veteran Adam Lieb, CEO of the marketing platform Gamesight, said that GTA 6 has been part of almost every conversation about launch dates he has heard.
