- It seems an RTX 5070 from the same AIB has suffered from a similar problem now.

Following a series of burnt GPUs at release, the RTX 5090 received a new report of an exploding capacitor very recently. This particular GPU came from PNY, with the user confirming that the incident had left the graphics card dead.
Another report along the same lines has now surfaced on Reddit. A GeForce RTX 5070 seems to have suffered a failed capacitor this time.
Why it matters: The poor quality control with the RTX 50 lineup is no secret. It seems graphics cards from certain AIBs are also prone to more failures than others.
Redditor Wujushu shared that he heard a loud ‘pop’ sound when playing Marvel Rivals. This was immediately followed by a burning smell, and a closer look at the PC confirmed that this smell came from the GPU itself.
According to the Redditor, the capacitor on this particular RTX 5070 seems to be the reason behind the sudden noise and smell. Interestingly, this RTX 5070 came from PNY, the same AIB responsible for the burnt RTX 5090 earlier this week.
Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that the user confirmed that this blown capacitor did not completely render his RTX 5070 useless. In fact, it seems the graphics card continued to function like nothing ever happened.
The user was still quick to shut down his system and now intends to pursue an RMA. Still, two back-to-back PNY RTX 50 GPU failures raise questions about the board partner’s quality control and manufacturing process.
As said earlier, Nvidia has faced its fair share of problems with the RTX 50 GPUs. Both in terms of performance and hardware failures, this lineup has not been the best representation of Nvidia.
The gaming giant is now gearing up to launch refreshed RTX 50 Super graphics cards soon, so extra caution must be taken to ensure such errors are not repeated with the new offerings.
