The Studio Has Expanded The Black Myth Franchise!

Story Highlight
  • Multiple DLCs for last year’s Chinese hit have been rumored for quite some time, and fans were hoping to get a reveal at Gamescom.
  • However, Game Science had different plans and instead announced a standalone title in the franchise.
  • The developer has revealed a fresh look at Black Myth: Zhong Kui, but the release date has not been confirmed yet.

Black Myth: Wukong is arguably the biggest and most successful release of 2024. The game surprised everyone, as few expected it to reach such incredible heights. Expectations weren’t just met, they were completely shattered. It went on to become the most-played single-player game in history, trailing behind only PUBG overall.

It was previously confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong would be receiving a major DLC, and rumors have long suggested that multiple expansions could be in the works.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of fans have been eagerly awaiting news, but during Gamescom, Game Science surprised everyone by announcing a standalone entry in the franchise, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, instead of the long-expected DLC.

Why it matters: Game Science has already proved itself to the world, so this new instalment in the franchise is guaranteed to make a strong impression.

August 20 has become a tradition for Game Science to share updates or reveal new projects, which is why the studio chose Gamescom to announce this title. Since the game is still in the early stages of development, there isn’t much the team can reveal just yet, but given its impressive track record, that’s perfectly fine.

The short CG trailer offered just enough to spark curiosity without giving too much away, keeping the fandom eager for more. It is worth noting that Black Myth: Zhong Kui shares the same foundation as the previous game in the franchise.

It will be a standard single-player ARPG, just like Black Myth: Wukong. That said, the main difference will be that you won’t be playing with Wukong; instead, you will be fighting as Zhong Kui.

Following The Ultimate Success of Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science Has Revealed A New Game In The Series

The developer has not given a release date, and it isn’t likely to do so this year, given that the development hasn’t progressed that far. Still, the expectations are already pretty high, and the fandom is eagerly awaiting its release.

It is also worth noting that the game will be released on PC and all mainstream consoles, but the final information will be confirmed before release.
