'So Will It Be The Same? No. Could It Be Amazing? Sure.'

Story Highlight
  • The Metal Gear Solid series producer says a new mainline entry is now absolutely possible, even if the original staff is not involved.
  • He argues that Konami still has gaps that were left after the original staff members left, but the new team is now confident.
  • Developing the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake has prepared the new team to aim for a mainline game.

Konami has previously made it clear that it has plans to preserve and focus on the Metal Gear Solid franchise for the next 10 to even 50 years ahead. However, since the original staff have long left to pursue their goals, most of the fans have doubted these claims.

Now, series producer Noriaki Okamura agrees that Konami indeed has holes the original staff left behind, which remain to be filled. However, MGS 3 remake voice actor David Hayter believes it is now ‘absolutely possible’ to develop a new mainline entry after the remake.

Why it matters: The franchise producer believes that the new team is capable of delivering the next mainline Metal Gear Solid game after the remake comes out.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
The last mainline Metal Gear Solid game came out in 2018 and saw mixed reception.

Speaking in the new issue of the PC Gamer Magazine, the franchise producer explains that developing the remake has made the new team more confident and competent in creating a new mainline game.

Through the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta, we have also gained a new sense of what our team is capable of.

The voice actor notes that Hideo Kojima’s trademark quirkiness will be absent, but the new game will still deliver a fantastic experience true to Metal Gear Solid’s essence.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
At the moment, Konami is entirely focused on the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is aiming to launch on 28 August 2025, for PC and consoles. The previews have already pointed to a great and faithful remake, giving fans much to be excited about.
