Capcom’s Share Price Rapidly Declines, Despite Monster Hunter Wilds Being 2025’s Best-Seller

Sold Less Than 500K Copies In April And June!

Story Highlight
  • Capcom’s share price has rapidly declined mainly because of MHW not meeting sales expectations.
  • The company has revealed that the game has hit a wall in terms of sales.
  • Despite selling 10 million copies in just one month, it sold less than 500K in April and June.

Monster Hunter Wilds is arguably the best-selling game of 2025. This game sold like hot cakes and wasn’t showing any signs of stopping until a significant oversight by Capcom. Due to major optimisation issues and other concerns, the fandom started review bombing the game, and it now has over 50% negative reviews.

The game launched to nearly 1.4 million players on Steam, but right now it is sitting at only over 30K 24-hour peak. Despite the fact that it is 2025’s best seller, it didn’t sell much in April and June, which caused Capcom’s share price to rapidly decline.

Why it matters: A slight negligence from the developer can make matters worse. If Capcom listened to fandom’s feedback and improved the optimisation, the sales may not have been affected.

Capcom’s Latest Monster Hunter Title Has Hit A Wall In Terms of Sales

Monster Hunter Wilds sold a whopping 8 million copies in just three days. In just a month, it surpassed the 10 million barrier, but then the sales slowed down. These many sales in just a span of a month are infrequent

The developer was perhaps expecting it to continue to sell at this pace, as it called the sales in April and June soft, which caused its share price to rapidly decline. For reference, the company’s share price at the end of Wednesday was around ¥4,283. However, today, when the market opened, the price dropped by a whopping 9.5%.

This means that Capcom’s shares dropped to ¥3,874. The company has revealed in its financial results for this quarter that its net sales and operating profit were up 53.7% and 90.8% respectively. However, it also revealed that its latest Monster Hunter sales seem to have hit a wall.

Regarding catalog titles, although sales were soft for Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest title in the series released in February this year, Monster Hunter Rise, a previous title in the same series, continued to see sales growth.

The game sold a whopping 10 million copies in its first month, but in April and June, it sold 477,000 units. This is surprising because its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, sold 389,000 units in the same period, which, by the way, is a four-year-old game
