In fact, the gaming division also saw major cancellations like Perfect Dark. While most of the ex-employees are not too happy with the events that transpired this month, one former Xbox team member has defended Microsoft’s AI investment.

Bradon Stirrup was part of Xbox Game Studios, working as a Senior Business Manager since 2022. Additionally, the ex-Microsoft employee had worked in various other roles over nearly 10 years at Microsoft.
In a recent tweet addressing the layoffs, he stated that Microsoft’s investment in AI is understandable. He noted that AI needs to be embraced by all, and those who fail to do so will be replaced.

In a follow-up tweet, Brandon Stirrup explained that he is an avid user of the technology himself. He clarified that his role involves devising strategies instead of engineering for Xbox, yet he was still let go.

However, industry veterans like Gabe Newell would likely agree with the statement since the Valve CEO recently emphasized the importance of AI and adapting to the technology for all professionals.
