Fans Call Starfield The Most Hyped Disappointing Game Of This Generation

Fans Complain It's Tedious And Boring!

Story Highlight
  • The majority of fans say Starfield was the most disappointing game amid hype this generation.
  • The title launched in 2023 and was supposed to be the flagship Xbox that had been missing for a long time.
  • It didn’t have a great reception, with many labeling the game as generic and bland.

Starfield was supposed to be the big comeback for Bethesda after years of not-so-great games. The company launched a massive marketing campaign around the game, even hiring the band Imagine Dragons, but it never gained traction.

Now, fans are claiming that Starfield was one of the most hyped titles of this generation, with the result being disappointing. While there isn’t much wrong with it, it doesn’t do anything extraordinary either.

Why it matters: The hype around Starfield was massive. Xbox fans were looking forward to what should’ve been the biggest flagship title for the company in years, rivaling Sony’s brilliant roster of exclusives.

On a thread on ResetEra, fans were asked to name the most disappointing games of this generation concerning their hype, and Starfield was the number one candidate. This shows how the game fell short of its mark.

Most fans criticize Starfield for not offering anything innovative. It felt more like a generic RPG, but set in space. There were a few cool things like space combat and landing on different planets, but that’s about it.

Starfield was supposed to be the next big thing for Xbox

It promised a memorable space adventure but couldn’t deliver on either the story or the overall gameplay. The scope was huge, and a budget of around $400 million, a lot was expected of it, but in the end, the game was just boring and flat.

Bethesda, however, is still supporting Starfield and is even expected to launch the game for PS5 later this year. So, let’s wait and see if the consensus around the game changes then, or if it remains forgettable just a couple of years later.
